When conducting a free police background check, you are given access to a lot more information aside from the typical criminal records. A police report usually says a lot about an individual other than his/her offenses. It could show psychological reports, pending charges, allegations and cases, which has never been convicted by court.

So what are free police background checks for? They are used for a variety of reasons, such as pre-employment screening for businesses, screening volunteers for youth organizations and even for hiring a new nanny or household help. How can do we conduct police background checks?

First, a request should be filed in your local police station stating the name of the person you wish to search for. In pre-employment screening cases, usually the employers are the ones who make the request in behalf of the applicant. Just bring any form of identification such as ID or a passport to verify the identity of the subject you are searching for. Although there are free police background checks available, there are some who might require a certain fee.  Some checks can cost you about $15 to $60. Again for pre-employment cases, it is usually the employer who shoulders the cost for the applicant.
